Inverse osmosis. The magic of Chemistry and Physics through the osmotic pressure used by plants.

The phenomenon of Osmosis was explained in 1855 by the German scientist Adolf Eugen Fick through Fick´s law studying the                    behavior of gases and fluids in plant cells. The law of diffusion flow. In 1886 J. H. Van´t Hoff concluded that “The osmotic pressure …
necessary to compensate for an energy deficit that is produced by the spontaneous dissolution of the solute in the solvent.”.

The reverse osmosis process was first proposed by Charles E. Reid in 1953. One of the surprises that physicochemicals have taken in the field of membrane application has been to discover their versatility, because they have served in the treatment of countless mixtures, whether to concentrate or dilute them. The areas of engineering that have been most favored with these applications are mainly the food, paper, biomedicine, petrochemical, and nuclear industries. Reverse osmosis is a water purification technology that uses a semipermeable
membrane to remove ions, molecules and larger particles in drinking water. To achieve reverse osmosis, a pressure is applied to overcome the osmotic pressure, which is a colligative property produced by differences in chemical potential of the solvent, a thermodynamic parameter.

Reverse osmosis can eliminate many types  of suspended elements in water, including bacteria, and is used both in industrial
processes and for the production of drinking water. The result is that the solution is retained from the pressurized side of the membrane
and the pure solvent can pass to the other side. To achieve “selectivity,” this membrane must not let large ions or molecules pass through its pores (or holes), but it must freely allow smaller components of the solution (such as solvent molecules) to pass through.
The force that causes the movement of the solvent is the reduction in the free energy of the system when the difference in the concentration of the solvent on either side of a membrane is reduced, generating osmotic pressure because the solvent moves to the solution more concentrated. Reverse osmosis is the application of an external pressure to reverse the natural flow of the solvent.

Reverse osmosis is not a filter, it works thanks to the difference in the thermodynamic energy of the
concentration. Reverse osmosis applies diffusion, making the process dependent on pressure, flow
rate and other conditions.

Reverse osmosis is used for the purification of drinking water from seawater, extracting salt
and other effluents from water molecules.

Pretreatment

Pretreatment is key to plant performance.
Hyperkamper pretreatment removes most
impurities: particles and colloids, protects
pressure boosting equipment and osmosis
equipment.
The first phase is a mechanical
diatomaceous filter that retains larger
particles.
The second pretreatment phase is a
mechanical filtration of cartridges that
reduce the size of the particles to microns.
HYPERKAMPER pretreatment design
facilitates maintenance and extends the life
of all high-tech parts: Membranes and high
equipment.

Automatic cleaning

HYPERKAMPER devices are automatic.
When necessary, a washing and descaling of
the membranes is performed by automatic
cycles of alkaline or acidic washes or with
fresh water, as determined by the control
equipment.

Energy recovery

Most of the energy is used to increase the
salt water pressure in order to use the
reverse osmosis phenomenon.
In order to respect the environment, we
have designed a circuit for the recovery of
this energy so that much of the waste
wasted at the outlet is reused in the salt
water inlet, reducing the global energy
required to produce a cubic meter at very
energy costs reduced.
